Overview

The CPRE Requirements Management module focuses on the management and control of requirements throughout the project lifecycle. Requirements often change during a project and effective management is critical to keep cost, time, and quality under control. This module teaches you techniques for managing requirements and changes to requirements in agile and traditional development processes as well as reporting in Requirements Engineering. Requirements management is central to both plan-based and agile approaches.

Contents

1. What is requirements management?

Understand the differences between Requirements Engineering and requirements management, the tasks and goals of requirements management, and the importance of a requirements management plan.

2. Requirements landscape and requirements information model

Get to know the basic classifications of requirements and their forms of representation and learn how to create a requirements information model.

3. Attribution and views for requirements

Learn the purpose and benefits of attribution in management activities, as well as the benefits of attribution schemes and how to define and analyze views.

4. Evaluation and prioritization of requirements

Understand the basic properties of evaluation and how it relates to prioritization and learn how to apply and combine different prioritization techniques.

5. Version and change management

Get to know the activities of version control and the main reasons for changes to requirements and learn about the tasks of a change control board.

6. Traceability of requirements

Understand the definition and benefits of traceability and learn how to implement traceability in your projects.

7. Variant management for requirements

Learn the basics of variant management and get to know techniques and methods for managing variants.

8. Reporting in requirements management

Understand the goals and benefits of reporting and learn the techniques and tools used for reporting in requirements management.

9. Management of requirements engineering processes

Learn how to manage RE processes and integrate them into higher-level processes.

10. Special features of requirements management in agile projects

Learn how requirements are handled in an agile context and find out which techniques and tools are suitable for agile requirements management.

Training and certification

The CPRE Foundation certificate (Level 1) is a prerequisite for the thematic deepening at the next level; alternatively, a BCS Practitioner certificate in RE is also accepted:

Level 2 | CPRE Requirements Management Practitioner

This certification allows you to learn the content and build the skills necessary to effectively manage requirements. You will receive the certificate after successfully passing the multiple-choice exam.
The CPRE Requirements Management Practitioner certificate (Level 2) entitles you to aim for the certificate at the next level:

Level 3 | CPRE Requirements Management Specialist

This certification proves that you have the skills necessary to successfully apply requirements management in various project situations. The examination is conducted by means of a written assignment in the student’s own project context.
